Debrisoft®

Debrisoft® is an innovative monofilament fibre debridement system for fast, effective wound bed preparation. Using millions of soft polyester fibres, Debrisoft gently lifts and removes slough, debris, biofilm and exudate from acute and chronic wounds in just 2–4 minutes, with minimal discomfort for patients. NICE recommended for wound debridement, this award-winning technology protects newly formed granulation tissue while thoroughly cleansing the wound bed. Available as Debrisoft Pads for surface wounds and Debrisoft Lolly for deep or hard-to-reach wounds. Browse our Debrisoft range below, or explore our complete wound care collection.

What is Debrisoft?

Debrisoft is a mechanical debridement device that uses monofilament fibre technology to prepare wounds for healing. The product consists of millions of soft, angled polyester fibres attached to a polyacrylate backing. When moistened and applied with gentle circular motions, these fibres reach into the wound bed to loosen, lift and bind non-viable tissue, slough, debris and biofilm, removing barriers to healing without damaging healthy granulation tissue or epithelial cells.

Debridement—the removal of devitalised tissue from wounds—is an essential step in wound management. Slough and necrotic tissue harbour bacteria, prevent re-epithelialisation, and block the effectiveness of topical treatments. Debrisoft offers a safe, effective alternative to more invasive debridement methods, making wound bed preparation accessible to generalist nurses in clinic, ward or community settings.

Why Choose Debrisoft?

Debrisoft has been evaluated by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), which recommends it as a debridement option for acute and chronic wounds. Clinical studies demonstrate that Debrisoft achieves visible results in 2–4 minutes and is effective in over 90% of cases. Key benefits include:

  • Fast results: Most wounds show visible improvement within minutes
  • Virtually painless: Clinical studies report 45% of patients experience no pain, with most others reporting only brief, slight discomfort
  • Protects healthy tissue: Bevelled fibre tips and flexible construction cleanse effectively while sparing granulation tissue and epithelial cells
  • Easy to use: Simple technique requires no specialist training
  • Removes biofilm: Fibre composite disrupts and removes biofilm, a key barrier to wound healing
  • Improves wound assessment: Clearer visibility of the wound bed enables better treatment planning

The Debrisoft Range

Daylong stocks two Debrisoft formats to suit different wound types:

  • Debrisoft Pads: Flat pads with a finger pocket for improved grip and control. Ideal for superficial wounds, leg ulcers, pressure injuries, and areas of hyperkeratosis. The larger surface area suits wounds on limbs and torso.
  • Debrisoft Lolly: An ergonomic handled design developed for deep wounds, tunnelling wounds, and hard-to-reach areas such as between toes, skin folds, or surgical cavities. The lolly shape provides precise control for targeted debridement.

Both products use the same proven monofilament technology and are single-use, disposable devices.

How to Use Debrisoft

Using Debrisoft is straightforward:

  1. Open the sterile pouch and remove the pad or lolly
  2. Thoroughly moisten the soft, fleecy surface with saline or wound cleanser (lolly requires minimum 15ml fluid)
  3. Allow excess liquid to drip off
  4. Grip the pad using the finger pocket, or hold the lolly by its handle
  5. Using gentle, controlled pressure, move in circular motions or long sweeping strokes across the wound bed
  6. Continue until the wound appears clean or the pad is saturated with debris
  7. Use a second pad if needed to complete debridement
  8. Dispose of used Debrisoft with clinical waste

Debrisoft is not a wound dressing and should never be left on the wound after use. Apply appropriate wound dressings following debridement according to your treatment protocol.

Conditions and Applications

Debrisoft is suitable for debridement of:

  • Acute and chronic superficial wounds
  • Venous leg ulcers with slough
  • Pressure ulcers and injuries
  • Diabetic foot ulcers (with appropriate clinical oversight)
  • Surgical wounds
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Wounds with biofilm
  • Hyperkeratotic skin surrounding wounds
  • Skin conditions including lymphoedema-associated keratosis

For patients with lymphoedema or chronic oedema, Debrisoft can help manage the hyperkeratotic skin changes that often accompany these conditions, improving skin health alongside compression therapy.

Clinical Evidence

Debrisoft is supported by published clinical evidence. Studies have demonstrated effective debridement in the majority of patients, with clinicians reporting efficient removal of debris, slough, dried exudate and crusts without damaging fragile surrounding skin. The virtually painless experience makes it particularly valuable for anxious patients, those with sensitive wounds, and paediatric applications.

Part of Complete Wound Care

Debrisoft works alongside other wound management products. Following debridement, appropriate dressings maintain optimal healing conditions. For patients with leg ulcers or oedema, compression therapy remains essential—explore our compression hosiery, leg ulcer hosiery kits, and compression wraps including ReadyWrap®.

Important Information

Debrisoft is designed for use by healthcare professionals. Hard necrotic tissue or thick eschar should be softened through autolytic debridement using moisture-retentive dressings before using Debrisoft. Always follow your local wound care protocols and seek specialist advice for complex wounds, wounds on hands, feet or face, patients with arterial disease, or inflammatory conditions such as pyoderma gangrenosum.
