Flamigel® RT

A protective gel for skin during radiotherapy, used without a dressing

Flamigel® RT is a protective gel for skin at risk of radiotherapy induced dermatitis. Spread over the treated area during a course of radiotherapy, it forms a barrier over the skin and is designed to help reduce the incidence of moist desquamation, the skin breakdown and oozing that radiotherapy can cause. The gel may also help soothe pain and reduce redness. It is not sticky or greasy, so dressing can follow straight away and no cover dressing is needed.

How to use it

• Wash hands before and after each use
• Clean and dry the treated skin gently first
• Apply a liberal amount three times a day to the treated area and a wide zone around it, then massage in gently
• Close the tube after every use
• Continue until 7 to 10 days after radiotherapy ends, or for as long as the radiotherapy team advises

Ingredients and precautions

Hydrocolloid, arginine, purified water, macrogol, branched chain fatty acid (BCFA), methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate (E216) and disodium EDTA. Fragrance free and latex free, made by Flen Health® and sold as a 100g Tube or 250g Tube. For external use only. Not for use where there is a known allergy to parabens or any of the ingredients listed. Avoid contact with the eyes; should the gel reach an eye, rinse thoroughly with running water and speak to a doctor, pharmacist or radiotherapy nurse. Do not use a damaged tube.

Follow the general skin care advice given by the radiotherapy centre. Ask a doctor, pharmacist or radiotherapy nurse before using the gel on wounds or infected skin, about how long to keep applying it, and if symptoms worsen.
